I have the ipod video and the charger works great with my kind of model. The cord that comes with the actual charger is recognized by my computer and itunes, syncs up the ipod, and then charges it. It acts just like the original cord that came with the ipod. The charger does come with an indicator light that lets you know when the ipod has been fully charged, it starts off as amber and turns green when charged. The cord itself does not seem tight when plugging into the ipod, so maybe this sort of problem depends on the model? I am really glad I got this charger, it is very handy to have in the car....
