Apple's "Play
more. Pay less" promotion, along with 2001, ended
on December 31st. J&R incorrectly lists the promotion
as ending January 31st, but this is actually the deadline
for mailing in the rebate form. The iBook had to be purchased
by December 31st. The Apple Store is now listing a 7 day wait
for all of their iBooks except the CD-RW model which is now
listed at 10 days. This is up from last week when there was
a 3 day wait for all iBooks. The optimistic Mac user may read
this as a sign that there may be new iBooks announced at Macworld
in 4 short days, but, for the most part, iBooks are in good
supply elsewhere. ClubMac and MacMall are out of the CD-ROM
iBook, with the latter store also out of the combination drive
iBook.
The only other availability glitches relate to bundle items,
with one store out of RAM, another out of the Lexmark printer,
etc. If you have visited Apple's home
page recently, check it out as they are hyping Macworld
in a big way. Your guess is as good as ours regarding what
will be introduced, but we will be lining up bright and early
for the keynote!
MaReviewZone's Best Picks:
CD-ROM DriveMacConnection,
MacZone,
MacWarehouse,
or MacMall- All three offer 256MB RAM and the Lexmark z23 printer with
this iBook, but MacConnection is the only one that doesn't
charge an install fee for the RAM. They make up for this by
also being the only one of these three not to offer a store
rebate for the printer. With the other stores, the printer
is free but you need to send in for two different rebates
to recoup your initial cash outlay. MacConnection's Tony Hawk/Game
pad bundle will appeal to the gamers. MacZone includes free
speakers on top of the 256MB free RAM (less $30 install fee)
offered by the others.
DVD DriveMacConnection,
MacZone,
MacWarehouse,
or MacMall- All are offering 256MB RAM with this machine. MacZone offers
256MB RAM & Benwin speakers. ClubMac adds in a Targus
carrying case. MacMall and MacWarehouse throw in a free (but
not hassle free) Z23 printer.
CD-RW Drive - Available through the Apple Store Only.
Note: We receive a small commission
on computers purchased using the links below. Though this
adds no cost to your purchase price it does help us defray
the cost of running MacReviewZone and MacSpeedZone. Your support
is appreciated!

** Shipping charges to California and does
not include cost of shipping bundles, your mileage may vary...
For the outpost, the free shipping option is only good on
orders that are under 100 pounds in weight. If you are buying
more than two machines, order the first two machines, wait
for them to arrive, and then order the next batch (if you
are only ordering iBooks you can order quite a few before
you go over the 100 pound limit!)
