Once Apple released its new
line of iMacs we fully expected prices on the remaining
stock of Rev. D iMacs to drop significantly. Let's face it,
the improvements and competitive pricing on the latest iMacs
have done a lot of damage to the Rev. D's sex appeal. As we
started our online research we were surprised to find Rev.
D prices around the $900 mark, a mere $100 less than the
new base iMac model! The base iMac sports twice the memory and
a far better graphics setup than its predecessor. See our table
below for a list of other changes. This Buyer's Guide, then,
is for the truly thrifty, those folks that want a Mac at the
absolute cheapest price they can find.
Before Apple released the revision D iMac (aka iMac
G3/333) there was a flurry of speculation about the machine.
Rumors of a 17" monitor and a new color (yellow, to round
out the colors of the original Apple logo) abounded on the
net. While these two predominant rumors didn't pan out, most
were pleasantly surprised by the iMac's speed bump to 333MHz.
Other than the processor speed, the Rev D iMacdidn't sport
any significant changes over its immediate predecessor. This
can be viewed as either a testimony to the iMac's design or
as a sign of Apple's disregard for complaints about the "hockey
puck" mouse, missing floppy etc. Below, we provide you
with specs for the entire iMac line, past and present as well
as price information for the remaining stock of Rev. D iMacs.
