Apple pulled two jack rabbits out of the hat during Steve
Jobs keynote at Macworld this morning, and one bunny. The
biggest, of course, is the radically redesigned iMac pictured
below. Not only is it beautiful, classy and powerful, it is
also, given its feature set, very reasonably priced. The introductory
model with CD-RW drive, 40 GB hard drive and 128 MB of RAM,
will set you back only $1,299. The middle model also comes
with a 40 GB hard drive, has 256 MB of RAM and a Combo DVD/CD-RW
drive. The high-end iMac comes with a 60 GB hard drive, 256
MB of RAM and the SuperDrive - which can read, write and rewrite
CDs, and read and write DVDs ... all for the incredibly low
price of $1,799. The SuperDrive was previously only available
on Apple's high-end professional machines, and you paid a
premium for it. The other big news was Apple's new photo editing
soft ware, and its attendant online services through Apple.
It's great software, similar to iTunes, but for photos, and
a very smart marketing move by Apple. The digital hub thing
is really taking shape ... but that's another article.
The bunny hop announcement was that the top of the line iBook
now has a 14 inch screen ... nice.
