Performance Notes:
Below the 13 Inch Macbook Pro 2.3GHz has been set to 100% and all the other MacBook Pro performance percentages are relative to that score. Both the raw scores and relative percentages have been included.
1) It would appear that the hard drive in the low-end 15 inch MacBook Pro 2.0 GHz is a bit of a dog. Our performance review showed it did far worse than the other two 15 inch machines in copying a folder full of files. The 2.0GHz machine does have a different, and lower capacity hard drive, than the other two 15 inchers. However it could be that we just received a particular, machine, that, by the luck of the draw, had a drive that was not the fastest in the world.
2) We also noted an odd hard drive performance difference between the 15 and 17 Inch 2.3GHz machines and their 2.2 GHz counterparts, with the 2.2GHz machines showing better performance in the single file duplication test. Our tentative theory is that since both 2.3GHz machines have a larger processor cache than the 2.2GHz ones, that this is having effect on this hard drive test. This seems counter-intuitive, but we vaguely remember coming across something similar on some much earlier machines from Apple. In any case this theory is not definitive, but calls for further testing.
