This Buyer's Guide compares the iMac G4/700 MHz, which has the Combo optical drive, to the eMac G4/1.25 GHz, which has a SuperDrive.
The iMac G4/700 MHz was released in January, 2002. It was the middle model of a family of three, which included a G4/700 MHz machine with a CD-RW at the low-end, and a G4/800 MHz iMac with a SuperDrive at the high-end. All machines had a 15 inch screen.
The eMac G4/1.25 GHz was released 27 months later in April, 2004. It is the high-end model of a family of two, which includes a G4/1.25 GHz machine at the low-end, which has half the hard drive capacity, and a Combo Drive instead of the SuperDrive.

Unfortunately, because of the time distance between when we tested these two machines, we are not able to provide a detailed performance comparison.
Clocked at 79% faster the eMac turns in about twice the basic processor performance of the iMac. In fact overall the eMac is twice as fast.
We were not able to compare hard drive performance, but suspect, that though the eMac is faster, it is not twice as fast, in this area.
Processor performance based on AltiVec Fractal program (Set to Maximum Count of 65536)
The 'General Interface' test is based on Let1kWindowsBloom, which is freely available.
Graphics Gaming (Processor) Test is based on the game Giants.. All settings are at highest quality. This game is more processor dependent ... will also make used of dual processors if present
