Internet Security Barrier Dual Protection - Intego
The ability to run Windows on Intel-based Macs is a boon for long-time Mac users and switchers alike. The drawback is that running two operating systems leaves your computer more vulnerable to attack... read more at MacUserUK |

DoorStop X Security Suite 2.0 - Open Door Networks
When I last reviewed Open Door Networks’ DoorStop X Security Suite (4 mice), I didn’t find much wrong with the suite’s Firewall application. It was powerful, secure, and stable, and it made OS X’s built-in firewall easy for almost anyone to manage. I’m pleased to note that with this new upgrade, nothing has changed in that regard. DoorStop X Security Suite 2.0 will still lock your Mac down tight... read more at Macworld |

Norton Confidential for Macintosh - Symantec
With some justification, many Mac users feel immune to virus threats. But nowadays the real malware action lies in platform-agnostic identity theft, or phishing, which involves tricking users into revealing personal data... read more at MacUserUK |

MacScan 2.1 - MacScan Software
Designed for security-conscious Mac users, MacScan 2.1 does two things: It scans your hard drive for spyware and other malware that has surreptitiously slipped onto your system and it cleans up the traces left behind by Web browsing—your browser history, cache, and cookies... read more at Macworld |

Norton AntiVirus 10.1 - Symantec
Symantec has collected a huge, detailed database of virus information on its Web site. Search for the recent Mac Leap.A malware, for instance, and you’ll get a page full of information, including screenshots. If a virus is found on your machine, a Learn More button will open the relevant page from Symantec’s site in a mini-browser window within the application... read more at Macworld |

Intego VirusBarrier X4 - Intego
Intego’s VirusBarrier X4 may be pricier than its competition, but it’s worth it. For starters, it’s extremely easy to use. Installation is a couple of mouse clicks and a restart; after the NetUpdate program updates your virus definitions, you’re ready to go... read more at Macworld |

ClamXav 1.0.3 - Mark Allan
If you don’t think the virus threat to your Mac is dire enough to spend any money protecting against it, ClamXav will get the job done. It’s based on a well-established open source project (clamav), and provides a decent level of protection (thanks in part to daily updates of its virus definitions). It costs nothing to buy or update (though the author does request donations), so ClamXav is about as cheap as it gets... read more at Macworld |

Little Snitch 1.2 - Objective Development
Little Snitch 1.2.2 is a valuable application that picks up where Mac OS X’s built-in firewall leaves off. Whereas the firewall software that Apple provides only screens incoming traffic (attempts to access your computer from the outside), Little Snitch watches for outgoing traffic—connections from software running on your Mac to addresses elsewhere on the Internet. Aimed at the increasing population of users whose computers are constantly online, the software could prove useful for providing an early warning that a malicious program is running on your Mac... read more at Macworld |

IPNetSentryX - Sustainable Softworks
IPNetSentryX is not so much a firewall as a firewall companion. It watches your network for unusual or dangerous traffic, and then blocks it. It’s geared primarily toward users who have a fair amount of technical knowledge, who know their UDP from their TCP, and who don’t need a fancy firewall front end. Simply put, it’s not for novices... read more at Macworld |

NetBarrier X4 10.4.1 - Intego
Intego’s NetBarrier X4 10.4.1 costs more than most other Mac firewall products, but you get what you pay for: It has more features and is more capable than any other Mac firewall, including the one that comes built-in to OS X. While it has all the standard features you’d expect in a firewall, such as packet filtering and intrusion detection, it also includes tools to fight spyware, manage your Web site cookies, and hide your browser info when you visit sites on the Internet... read more at Macworld |

DoorStop X Security Suite - Open Door Networks
DoorStop X Security Suite puts a friendlier front end on OS X’s built-in firewall, making it an excellent solution for users who like the idea of using that built-in firewall but would like to be able to configure it more completely without resorting to the Terminal. The question is, are you willing to pay $80 for such access... read more at Macworld |

Timbuktu Pro 8.5 - Netopia
Macintosh users and tech support crews have long used Netopia’s Timbuktu Pro to interact with other machines over a network connection—through screen control, file transfer, or voice or text chat with remote users. Whereas version 7.0 brought Panther compatibility, but not much in the way of new features, Timbuktu Pro 8.5 embraces OS X’s underpinnings to deliver increased security and flexibility... read more at Macworld |

DoorStop X 1.0 - Open Door Networks
DoorStop X 1.0 is intended as an easy-to-use replacement for the software firewall built into OS X, and it offers finer control of configuration and logging. The program’s documentation and interface achieve a good balance of simplifying the basics of configuring a firewall while avoiding complexity that might overwhelm novice users. The program’s focus on simplicity may explain its lack of features in comparison to other third-party firewall programs... read more at Macworld |
