Close And Personal - And You Thought Snow Was White

Below we bring you close-ups of different aspects of the
iMac, for those of you not near an Apple Store. White is the
theme ... as you can see. We were told that the white Pro
Mouse, Pro Speakers and Pro Keyboard, are only available with
the iMac. They will not be sold separately. You can however
still get the crystal clear ones that are trimmed with black.
Some who we talked to worried that the white keyboard would
quickly become grimy with use. Don't know about that, but
it sure looks cool brand new.
We are curious how well the joints on the backbone of the
machine will hold up over time ... we are trying to track
down more information one these joints. The shiny metal backbone
allows you to tilt and lift the screen. It is of very sturdy
construction. However it doesn't appear to that you can tighten
the joints, should they loose their viscosity after prolonged
use.

On the old speakers the inner ring is
black instead of white. Speakers only come with the
two top end models (there are three different models).
The iMac has a built in speaker.
The keyboard keys are completely white
with the outer housing clear
I think the new white mouse looks really
elegant. A little quieter than the black version
The screen can swivel the front 180 degrees
of the base unit. The components inside the base unit
are cooled by a whisper quiet fan.
The top of the backbone, where it attaches
to the screen.
The ports are found, out of the way, on
the back of the base unit. 3 USB ports (shared on two
12-Mbps controllers) , Two 400-Mbps FireWire ports,
Mini-VGA output port (requires VGA display adapter -
mirroring only), 10/100BASE-T Ethernet, modem port,
Apple speaker port, headphones port. The iMac has a
non-standard power cord, which you can see in the middle
of the picture above.
